There’s something great about ESP32-WROOM modules: you can prototype fast, use test fixtures to debug, then pop a module off, solder it onto a board, and voilà, you’ve got a working device.
Or a non-working one.
Usually it's one of those two.

Leaks

Emails tend to leak easily. I keep a server to track such leaks, one email per service. I'm using Modoboa, but it is limited due to its complexity. I'm not sure I can reinstall it with certificates, backups and more being OK.

Introduction

This is a small note I'm making to tell about my experience with media converters, fiber optic cables, etc.

Things you'll see here are quite affordable as I won't be able to test them otherwise; some of these details are applicable for home use. Some of these details aren't applicable whatsoever.

Life has its “surprises”, so I'll maintain my list of stuff I'm using to handle them here, expressed in the form of IFAK.
To explain more, it's a bag that first responders use. It contains a collection of medical supplies used in emergencies.
It's personal and not supposed to be exhaustive, but it may help someone else as a reminder or something like that.

Grid's thoughts on mice

Modern mice aren't that good and we should discuss how to fix it.
For starters, have you seen an open-source mouse that is interesting and customizable? Ploopy is good, but it doesn't count, you have to resolder the switches, even if it's open.

Grid's thoughts on SMS

Long ago, I was pestered by a ton of SMS messages. I've been considering a dedicated device to make my life easier using a SIM900 module.
After playing with it for quite a bit, I received the SMS messages by UART, and things were getting closer to okay.
Given more time, I might've been using phone numbers and parsers to make my life easier and to hear only the notifications regarding the topics that matter to me.
Alas, I had to abandon such a notion of convenience.

Grid's TinySA Ultra notes

Overall opinion

It's a very nice toy, especially given that some hardware isn't available as easily.
Seeing devices like, for instance, Rohde & Schwarz FSH3 that cost $2295.00, I appreciate the cheaper device with a wider spectrum.

It may be the first widely available device with such capabilities, and I got very interested after watching this

There’s a compact and affordable USB-based industrial digital interface adapter by Waveshare that lets you communicate with a variety of digital interfaces: UART, I²C, SPI (not Quad-SPI), and JTAG.

I’ve been using this multi-bus adapter for a while now. It’s proven reliable enough that I’ve recommended it to others, and I think it may as well deserve a spot in your toolkit as a genuinely useful utility device.
