always start with low blade settings (for vinyl no more then 1-2mm), and make sure your sticky mat is stored after use

material

  • common transparency sheets (4mil thick)
  • kapton sheets link
  • vinyl stickers
  • z-axis dual side adhesive - 3M™ Electrically Conductive Adhesive Transfer Tape 9703
  • no paper please. it needs to be "plasticy".

DO NOT

  • no use copy paper - leaves residue on the sticky mat. very hard/impossible to clean
  • no use felt - same, will clog the knife and hard to clean that. see then [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9IFZ7QK9GA how to clean silluate blade]

howto

silkscreen

use the svg2poly eagle ULP, there are excellent instructions there on using inkscape to "flatten" any file to be used.

  • In Inkscape 0.47 or newer, Preferences > SVG output > Path data, tick "Allow relative coordinates"
  • Type out the text that you want. Format it and such.
  • Lock the height/width ratio
  • Change height to 100 (this helps with changing the ratio)
  • Ctrl-Shift-C (Object to Path)
  • Select all (w/ Node Cursor)
  • Extensions > Modify Path > Add Nodes (Default settings are alright)
  • Extensions > Modify Path > Flatten Beziers (Default settings are alright)
  • For the closed loop letters O,o,D,d,etc...
  • Draw a rectangle dividing the letter ( O => ([)] )
  • Select the rectangle and the letter
  • Ctrl-/ (Division)
  • Repeat with all closed letters
  • Select all (w/ Node Cursor)
  • Ctrl-Shift-K (Break Apart)
  • Save As > Plain SVG

installation

windows
  • install Silhouette Studio
  • download and place cream-dxf.ulp in your eagle ULP folder
  1. Open the board file.
  2. File/Run, cream-dxf.ulp (the DXF exporter above).
    • Uncheck "Cut two times..."
    • (Leave "Cut off corners..." unchecked.)
    • (Leave shrink width at 0.05 mm, or alter as you see fit.)
    • Click Run.
  3. (source and full instrctions from idleloop)

this is with best settings (4-6mil blade, speed 1, force/thickness 33)
the cutouts take very little force to release

via one of the llinks above, the blade settings of 1 didn't do a lot. i went with 4-6
