How are you getting the money?
By membership dues, with a few members contributing significantly more then others. See Money_Matters
That's terrible! Why don't you go to a venture capital fund, or angles?
1. Independence: With external support comes external agenda. A hackerspace is a thinly linked group of individuals at its core, an external influence is contrary to this spirit.
2. Missing the point: Workshops, lectures, parties, joint activities, projects that have income - those and more are things people have shown they like and are in sync with our belives in sharing knowledge, exploring new things and having fun in the process. Making money out of these is the main way to get to a working hackerspace. If we take external money we reduce the incentive to do this.
